25 Essential Feeds for Small Business Bloggers

20 Essential Feeds for Small Business Bloggers

A good friend of mine recently decided to start-up her own business, and asked me if there were any web sites or blogs that I recommend she read.

I’m currently subscribed to approximately 40 blogs relating to small business, blogging, marketing, etc. Although I love them all, some are more highly regarded as great resources on these topics.

The cream of the crop so to speak…

Now, this isn’t a definitive list, as it’s all subject to personal opinion, if you know what I mean. There are obviously a LOT more blogs than the ones listed below, and many of these actually cross-over between different categories – although I did attempt to place them in the most applicable spot…

Anyway, these are the blogs that I personally refer to the most. Whether it is to read the latest post, or search through the archives for something specific, you can often find me on these sites. They are the “must reads” on my feed reader.

Blogging

Business

Marketing

Productivity

Work / Life Balance

Writing

What’s In YOUR Feed Reader?

If you could only subscribe to 3 feeds relating to the topics above…
what would be on your list? What MUST you read no matter what?

Please leave a comment below – I’d love to hear your suggestions! I’ll eventually be setting up a Blogroll page, which will include the sites above. I’m open to suggestions for additional blogs to add to the list, so let me know your thoughts!

Good luck with your new venture, Nicole – and thanks for inspiring this post!

Editor’s Note: This post was originally titled “20 Essential Feeds for Small Business Bloggers” – In an effort to review and improve upon old blog posts, I’ve added additional blogs to the list. Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for listing Pro Blog Design in there; that made my day!

Some of my favorites, not listed here, are:
    http://www.paulgraham.com/articles.html
    http://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/
    http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/
    http://lifehacker.com/tag/windows%20vista/

PS – Do you know there’s no link to your blog’s homepage in your site nav?

  2. @Michael – You’re very welcome! I’ve read so many great blog design tips on your blog, I had to list it! I’ve used several of the tips already, and have a few more still on my to do list, lol.

Thanks for the links – I will check those out! I’ve been to lifehacker many times in the past – I should have included that!

P.S. – Thanks on the blog link – it’s not listed on purpose (yet) – I’m still doing tweaks on the blog itself. It’s technically still in it’s “soft launch” phase. I want to iron out a few of the kinks, including validating the template code, etc. before it’s completely official. ;)

  3. Skelliewag, DoshDosh, and Anywired.

I know that Skellie is in there twice, and to be honest, Skellie’s articles are the main reason I’m subscribed to ProBlogger too. :-)

  4. Dave Navarro says:

    Selene -
Thanks for the mention. Much appreciated!

  5. shane says:

on the short list – wow – thanks Selene!

  6. Hi Selene, this is a great list!

If I could only read 3 a day related to these topics they would be Problogger.net, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com, and eMomsathome.com/blog.

If only I had more time in the day to read everything that I want to…..I need to take one of those speed reading courses. :)

  7. Joe Cheray says:

JoLynn I am glad you threw in Yaro’s blog there. He has some great wisdom and insights.

I follow Yaro, eMom, ProBlogger, derricksemler, and Old School SEO fairly regularly.

  8. Ben says:

Very cool finds. I love Zen Habits and Scott Young’s site (as well as a lot of the other ones you listed). Steve Pavlina’s productivity blog is another good one too.

I think what’s so common among those blogs is that you can find good tips to help you live life a little better — and on a consistent basis.

  9. Selene,
Ah, that makes more sense! I wondered how you could have missed out that link… xD

Good luck getting things fully polished. :)

  10. Thanks for posting this. I already subscribe to m any of them. And now I’ll be adding those that I seem to have missed – like Skellie

  11. Nicole says:

Thank you sooo much for posting this! I am glad I inspired you, but you have helped me much more than I helped you. I look forward to learning more!

  12. Nick Cernis says:

Thanks for the mention, Selene! I’ve been learning a lot from you too; I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of “save the developers” before I read about it here last week.

    Keep it up!

Another one I’d recommend to all is http://menwithpens.ca — excellent writing, great advice and regular updates. Check it out.

  13. Selene, nice to meet you – I love the asterisk and the pronunciation guide!

I recommend Successful Blog by Liz Strauss: http://www.successful-blog.com. It’s more about writing and life than just blogging, but it’s amazing. She’s the ringleader of SOBCon08, a blogging conference in Chicago that I’m super excited to be attending in four weeks.

  14. @Everyone – thanks so much for the good feedback on the article! I will definitely be checking out some of the blogs you mentioned (some of which I do read and can’t believe I left out – Yikes!)

I’ll post a follow-up when my official blogroll page is up – I’m sure I’ll be adding many of the sites you listed.

@Michael, Dave, Shane and Nick – you’re very welcome for the mention! I am always reading your sites when I see a new post from you in Netvibes!

@Nick – LOL, I just learned of Save the Developers recently too – I HAD to jump on it and post an article the day I found out about it. Thanks Twitter!

@Easton – I’m glad you like the pronunciation key! I had to do something to “set the record straight” on how to say my name, lol. Trust me… I’ve heard ‘em all! LOL

BTW, a follow-up post to that is coming soon, too… once I finalize the fine tuning on this blog, lol. Hopefully sooner rather than later. ;)

  15. Jarkko Laine says:

Thanks, Selene! It’s an honor to be listed together with all these amazing bloggers.

  16. @Jarkko – You’re very welcome! I love reading your blog – nice to see the work/life balance perspective from a father’s point of view! :)

  17. Wow – thanks Selene! What an honor to be among so many great bloggers. I’ll second Ben about Steve Pavlina and Nick about Men with Pens – both awesome blogs! There are so many good ones… I also really like Urban Monk http://www.urbanmonk.net and Monika’s Freelance Manifesto http://www.thewritersmanifesto.com.

    Thanks again!

  18. @Christine – You’re very welcome! You’ve got great info on your blog – I find much of it quite inspirational! :)

Thanks for the links – I will definitely check those out!
