Case Study: The Kilpatrick Company

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on May 13th, 2008

The Kilpatrick Company

The Kilpatrick Company, based in Boynton Beach, Florida, has been in the Irrigation and Landscape business since 1958. This year marks the Kilpatrick Company’s 50th Anniversary. To coincide with this milestone, they wanted to drastically update their web site and give it a modern look and feel.

The company approached me in late 2007 to request a re-design of their existing web site. Their old site had been around for a while, and it was time for a change - both in terms of design, as well as the features and information that they offer to both new and old customers, alike.

About the Company

With thirteen locations, and growing, The Kilpatrick Company specializes in Irrigation and Landscape Products, as well as Turf Equipment. The web site currently focuses on their three main divisions:

  • KILPATRICK Irrigation & Landscape Products
  • KILPATRICK Turf & Commercial Equipment
  • KILPATRICK International

“The Kilpatrick Company has been established as one of the largest distributors of turf care equipment in the world with customers in over 35 countries. The company has been named the Distributor of the Year several times by Jacobsen/TEXTRON.”

Project Details

Client: The Kilpatrick Company
URL: www.kilpatrickco.com
Site Launch: March 2008

Project Scope:

  • Web Site Site Design
  • Front-End Web Development
  • Flash Header Animation
  • Valid Standards Compliant Tableless XHTML / CSS
  • Continued Site Maintenance / Updates

Before

The Kilpatrick Company: Before

It had been some time since The Kilpatrick Company had re-designed their web site. The old site was much more conservative in nature, featuring a “safe” white background. The old design was based on the shades of blue and green found in the company logo.

After

The Kilpatrick Company: After

The main objective for this project was to design a web site for The Kilpatrick Company that has a professional and corporate feel, while still maintaining the company branded blue and green color palette. After a complete overhaul, the site now has a modern edge to it, with colors that “pop” - all while maintaining a clean and simple style.

New features of the site include a flash header animation on the home page - which rotates through images of the company’s three main divisions - as well as a calendar of events, voting poll, and store locator.

As part of regular site maintenance, I update the company’s Bonus Buy’s on a monthly basis, as well as periodically add new locations and make other minor content changes. Site development is not 100% complete yet - there are a few areas, such as the FAQ, that the company is still working on creating content for (I’ll be adding this to the site as it becomes available).

Client Testimonial

It was nice working with iDesign Studios.

Thank you for your hard work in creating our website. Everyone likes it and they are happy with it. We look forward to continuing to work with you.
Thanks again!

Angela P. Thomas, Marketing Manager

Get Clients Now: A 28 Day Marketing Program

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on May 7th, 2008

Get Clients Now: A 28 Day Marketing Program

Back in January, I started reading Get Clients Now! A 28-Day Marketing Program for Professionals, Consultants, and Coaches by C.J. Hayden.

This book walks you through creating a 28 Day Marketing Program to help promote your business. It’s particularly aimed at service based businesses, but I’m sure the techniques could be adapted to those selling products as well.

With a title like that, the book instantly caught my attention. That and the rave reviews I saw on Amazon. (Yes, that’s an affiliate link above… if you plan to buy the book anyway, I hope you’ll help a girl out by clicking the link, LOL)

From the first few pages, I was very excited to get started with the 28 day program. I believe I share a lot in common with many small business owners -we love what we do, but we are designers or writers or [insert job title here]… not necessarily marketing specialists!

As a small business owner, though, you end up wearing many different hats - including that of a sales man (or woman).

The Universal Marketing Cycle: A Brief Overview…

Get Clients Now! focuses on the four stages of the Universal Marketing Cycle:

  • Filling the Pipeline
  • Following Up
  • Getting Presentations
  • Closing Sales

C.J. Hayden explains the strategies and ingredients necessary for improving your performance on the stages above. As part of the 28 day cycle, you are able to put together your own program, selecting the specific ingredients, techniques and daily actions that appeal to you.

The Importance of Self-Promotion

I’ve found this to be a very motivational book, and I can honestly say that I have accomplished a LOT because of it. I’ve completed several success ingredients, and have been networking through this blog and other social media. I’ve met a lot of great people, and formed relationships that I never would have if not for this book.

Some of the contacts I’ve made through the networking suggestions in the book have turned into qualified leads, too (and that is the point of the book, after all…)

Now, I love the concept of the 28 Day program… BUT - and there’s always a “but” - I’ve started 3 programs so far, and I have yet to actually complete one!

Although I always hit the ground running, I end up slacking off before reaching the final week (or two). I hope that doesn’t reflect poorly on the book itself, it’s just the side of me who ends up putting clients first, before my own business.

Avoid the Feast or Famine Cycle

Unfortunately, this throws me right into the vicious cycle of feast vs famine.

In other words, when business is slow, I market like crazy, which is great! But when things pick up and I’m juggling several clients at once, I feel I “don’t have time” for marketing.

This is most certainly NOT the smartest approach to take - because although you will not notice it during the busy times, you will most definitely feel the consequences “next month” when the work you were doing is finished, and there are no new clients on the horizon.

It’s important to keep planting those seeds, so you have a steady stream of work sprouting up.

Enter a NEW Month… and a NEW 28 Day Program!

So, this post is all about creating some accountability for myself. This time will be different, as I’ll be posting weekly updates right here.

Nothing like putting it all out in the open to help make you accountable!

Care to Join Me?

I’m planning on starting a new program very soon - a little over a week from now, on Saturday, May 17th.

The book suggests starting the program on a Saturday, but otherwise you have weekends “off” while you do the majority of your program tasks during the work-week. Of course, if your schedule is different, you can easily re-arrange the dates to better suit you. Point is… it’s 28 days of marketing and self-promotion.

You can’t go wrong there!

A Book Club, of Sorts…

I’d love to open this up to anyone else who has the book; have been planning on getting the book; have never heard of the book, but your interest is now peaked… well, you get the idea, right? ;)

I’ll be posting weekly updates as I go through the program. It might not all make sense to you if you don’t have Get Clients Now! but you can get a general idea of what to expect if you do eventually want to try it for yourself.

Are You In?

So, if you want to participate, please make a comment below or post on your blog, etc. It would be great to have a group of people to help hold each other accountable. What’s there to loose - your business could (and likely will) benefit from it!

For those of you joining in on the fun, you can download the FREE marketing plan worksheets from the Get Clients Now web site.

Have You Already Completed A (Several) Program(s)?

I’d love to hear your thoughts… Has it worked for you?
Do you have any suggestions?

BTW, like Naomi’s recent small business game post
…this is NOT a meme! LOL

New Portfolio Section of Blog

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on May 1st, 2008

Web Design Portfolio

2008 has proven to be a very busy year for me, so far. In the last four months, I’ve completed the design and development of three client web sites - two of which have officially launched today!

This is among other development only projects, several email and banner ad designs, as well as on-going content maintenance for existing clients. Not to mention, of course the re-launch of my business site (which includes a new shopping cart for the Services area), and the re-design of this blog.

New Blog Section

This has been in the works, but I’m happy to announce a new Portfolio section of my blog today. Here I will be highlighting recently completed projects as they launch. I have a little bit of catching up to do for the past few web sites, but once caught up, I’ll be announcing new site launches from this section as they happen.

Sneak Peek - Just Launched Today!

So as not to bombard you with too many new posts all in one day, I’ll be posting each of these portfolio pieces over the course of the month. For a sneak peek, though, below are the two web sites that have officially launched today.

Pick Nick’s Brain

Pick Nick’s Brain

My involvement in this WordPress driven web site and blog includes complete web site design and development in the form of a custom WordPress theme. Although this will be my third WordPress theme, it is my first for a client. Soon to be followed by an official announcement of new WordPress services.

A Miner Miracle

A Miner Miracle

My involvement in this site includes the re-design of the company home page, based on the existing interior site pages. The main focus of this project, however, was the creation of a flash intro animation.

More Portfolio Pieces

As a note, you can view all of the sites about to be profiled through the Portfolio page on the main site.

I hope you enjoy this new section. I’m going to enjoy being able to spotlight recent projects with more inside information than what’s found through the main portfolio.

Of course, I can’t end a post like this without another shameless plug! If you like my design style, please feel free to contact me to see how I can help make your web site stand out from the crowd!

RSS Awareness Day

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on May 1st, 2008

Not many people are aware of this, but May 1st is RSS Awareness Day!

Although blogging has become very popular in recent years, there are many people who do not know the first thing about RSS and feed readers. The quick explanation from RSSDay.org:

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format used to deliver information from websites and pages that get updated regularly. An RSS document (which is called feed) contains either a summary or the full content from a website.

For the fun (and more informative answer), I hope you will watch the video above, created by The CommonCraft Show.

Do You Know About RSS?

Is this old news to you, or are you new to the world of blogging and RSS / Feed Readers? If you’re an old pro, what is your favorite feed reader? I personally use and love Netvibes. Other popular RSS readers include My Yahoo, Google Reader and Bloglines to name a few.

Please comment below, and spread the word about RSS Awareness Day on your own web site or blog!

While you’re at it, feel free to dip into the world of RSS by subscribing to my feed.

What’s Your Small Business?

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on April 28th, 2008

What’s Your Small Business?

Last week, Naomi over at Itty Biz posed a thoughtful question to her readers: Let’s Play a Game - What’s Your Small Business?

Some might call this a meme, but she doesen’t specifically call anyone out to answer, so it’s NOT a meme, LOL.

Not as Obvious as You Think…

Naomi received a question from one of her regular readers, asking what she actually does for a living.

“So what do you actually do for a living?”

This can be somewhat shocking to hear that a regular reader doesn’t quite understand what you do… If a regular reader doesn’t get it - how are new visitors you your site or blog supposed to know?

Enter the What’s Your Small Business Game! Naomi posted several questions that will help clarify exactly what it is that you do for a living. Sounds like a fun and completely useful game. It’s my turn now, so here goes…

What’s your game? What do you do?

The quick answer - I design web sites.

iDesign Studios creates custom web sites
that help you stand out from the crowd.

My full personal and business speil’s are hopefully pretty obvious, and are placed up at the top of this blog and on the main business site.

Basically speaking, though, I design and develop web sites, from concept to completion. I’ll discuss your business needs with you, see where you are headed, come up with a plan and design a web site that will help your business grow. More on that process here.

Once we’ve finalized the design, I will develop it into a functional web site, using valid, W3C standards compliant code. If you like, I am also more than happy to continue working with you to update the content on your web site, adding new features, etc. - basically helping your web site grow along with your business.

Why do you do it? Do you love it,
or do you just have one of those creepy knacks?

I design and develop web sites because it’s what I love to do!

I have always been artistic, and was lucky to have a very early exposure to computers. My Dad got his first computer - a TRS-80 - way back when I was 3 years old. So maybe there is a tiny bit of “creepy knack” in there.

But, it’s more than just having a “creepy knack” because I actually enjoy it.

While I like the design phase - especially when you get in the “zone” - what I love the most is the development stage. The point of taking something that I designed and turning it into a functional web site.

I especially love learning new techniques. As a front-end web developer, you have to face challenges such as creating code that not only validates, but also looks good on a variety of web browsers. There are often several obstacles you come across in accomplishing this, while also maintaining the design that you created for a web site.

It’s when you surpass those obstacles - often times learning a new trick in the process - that I find to be the most exciting. This is a huge part of what I like the most about being a web designer / front-end web developer, and what makes me look forward to developing the next web site.

It’s a never ending learning process, one that I greatly enjoy!

Who are your customers?
What kind of people would need or want what you offer?

My clients are a mix of small to medium sized businesses, with the occasional larger organization thrown into the mix. However, the majority of my clients are small businesses - one man/woman shows, or small family run businesses.

Working with a wide range of businesses, industries
and organizations throughout the United States,
my primary goal is to help other small businesses
succeed in their endeavors.

I find that I especially enjoy working for very small companies - primarily those who are establishing themselves on the internet for the first time. It’s nice to be able to introduce them to a whole new world of business marketing.

When a company decides they want to create a web site for the first time, it helps push their business to a whole new level. They are able to reach a much larger audience that they can market their business too.

I often also work with companies that have already gotten their feet wet with one (or several) web sites in the past. But those sites were either un-successful, or have just run their course. It is nice to work with them to help them establish a whole new identity to step their online presence up a notch.

What’s your marketing USP?
Why should I buy from you instead of the other losers?

My USP (Unique Selling Proposition) is that I will give you a unique, professional, custom design that you can be sure no-one else out there will have. I will give you full attention to detail, and a good quality web site. Those “other losers” aren’t necessarily going to give you that.

Not everyone is going to give you a custom design. Unfortunately many web designers utilize template services for this, which means there could be 5, 10, 50 or more companies out there with the same exact web design as you. That’s not going to make your business stand out from the crowd!

There are a lot of designers out there that don’t have a unique design style, either. Many will give you a so-so design. Or will develop it with old web standards (using old-school html tables or even worse a site that doesn’t validate, or that doesn’t display properly across a variety of web browsers - thereby limiting your web audience).

When you hire me to design your web site, you can be sure that I am going to sit down and design something from scratch, with you completely in mind. I have a unique design style - typically a “less is more” “clean” style that I will apply to your web site to give it a good professional look (or a funky look if that’s what you’re going for, lol).

Bottom line - I will give you a uniquely styled and well coded web site that will help your business grow. Simply put, I’ll help you stand out from the crowd.

What’s next for you? What’s the big plan?

The big plan at the moment is to expand upon my core services.

Right now, I primarily design and develop static web sites. However, I’ve dipped my feet into the wonderful world of WordPress, and am loving it! WordPress is a powerful tool, that can be utilized not only as a blogging platform, but also as a light CMS (Content Management System).

I’ve actually got my first client WordPress web site launching later this week, which I am very excited about! This will be doing double-duty for me, as I plan to use this as an opportunity to officially announce new WordPress Theme development services - which I plan to start offering through my online store before the end of the month.

For More Information…

I can’t end a post like this without linking you to additional information on my main business web site, LOL.

You can learn more about my company, iDesign Studios here, as well as read testimonials from happy clients. I also hope you’ll take a look at my web design portfolio, as well as my list of services (which links to an online shopping cart with complete details on exactly what is included when you purchase any of my web site design, development and hosting services).

If you have any questions, you might find the answer over in the Frequently Asked Questions. If not - please do feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!

Now It’s Your Turn!

So what about you? What’s your small business?

If someone went to your web site, would they immediately know exactly what you do? You’d be surprised how blatantly obvious you might think the answer is… but there is always that one reader (or ten) who don’t quite get it.

Help them out by participating! Tell everyone what your business game is, and link to or comment on the original article over on Itty Biz. I’d love for you to make a comment below, too!

Every year, on April 22nd, we are reminded of just how important our planet is to us. Earth Day is a celebration of our home in the universe, and gives us a chance to do a little something to improve upon our environment.

Do Something Good

I hope that everyone will take the opportunity to do something good for the Earth today. It doesn’t matter how small of a gesture… Whether you write a post on your blog promoting environmental awareness, plant a tree, recycle those old newspapers or soda cans that have been sitting in the garage, LOL.

Just do something, because every little bit helps!

For a bit of inspiration, below are a few web sites promoting Earth Day. I hope you’ll visit, and be inspired to make a difference in our environment.

GhostBlogging.net - Bloggers: Meet Writers

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on April 15th, 2008

Ghost Blogging - Bloggers Meet Writers

It’s been a while since I shared a little link love post! This time around, I’d like to feature Ritu B. Pant’s latest venture: GhostBlogging.net. You might recognize some of Ritu’s writing on Freelance Folder, among other blogs.

What exactly is GhostBlogging.net?

You can call it a blogging job board. The main idea behind GhostBlogging is to provide a platform where bloggers and writers can meet. Most bloggers are looking for new writers to give their readers a fresh perspective, while other writers/bloggers are looking for a way to reach new audience. And this is exactly what this site will help you with - finding someone to write for you or a way to gain more exposure and reach by writing for someone else.

A Job Board with Advice

The primary focus of GhostBlogging.net is that it is a job board for bloggers to post blogging opportunities, and for writers to find work. It’s free for writers to apply for writing gigs, and only $10/month for bloggers to post their jobs.

GhostBlogging.net also runs it’s own blog with writing and blogging related advice. For example they offer a Weekday SEO Tip and Weekend Blogging Tip. The blog itself is very new, but already has some very informative posts. My two favorites so far…

In the blogging world, it is all about networking and getting yourself “out there” - the GhostBlogging.net blog will be sharing their perspective and insight to this side of the blogging world. I hope you’ll check out the site, as it is sure to have a little something for everyone.

Share the Link Love

Since GhostBlogging.net is so new, and they are trying to get the word out, they’re offering a bit of a link love promotion

GhostBlogging.net is offering a Review / Banner exchange, which is actually the basis for this post. It’s a win-win for everyone… you get your banner placed on their blog for 1 month; they get a post about them on your blog; and you get a fresh post idea, lol. I have to be honest, I’m doubtful I would have had a post prepared for today if it wasn’t for this one, so it workd out well, all around!

I’m not sure how long this offer stands - and I know spots are filling up quickly, so you might want to act on this now. If you’re interested, you can get more information here.

Guest / Ghost Blogging Anyone?

I’m still fairly new to blogging - only about 8 months into it - so I have yet to write any guest posts or invite anyone to write for my blog, etc. But this is becoming an increasingly popular option - one that brings extra traffic to both sides!

Have you guest blogged or had a guest blogger write for you? I’d love to hear your experiences with it! Better yet - have you had a good experience with GhostBlogging.net? I’d love to hear that too.

I must say that I like what I see on the site, and will definitely keep it in mind when I’m ready to bring in a fresh voice or two to this blog.

Blogger Appreciation Day (Unofficial)

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on April 14th, 2008

Blogger Appreciation Day (Unofficial)

This morning, as I was checking out the latest posts from some of my favorite blogs, I saw a headline on ProBlogger that caught my eye… “Today is Blogger Appreciation Day [Unofficial]“

As the title suggests, this is an unofficial day - but I have a feeling that any blogging tradition started by Darren Rowse is very likely to catch on. I would not be surprised if this is an even bigger event - and possibly changed to [Official] - by next year as well.

From Darren:

Lets spend today doing a few random acts of kindness and encouragement for our fellow bloggers.

We’re in it together, blogging is about collaboration and together going further than we can by ourselves - so why not help another blogger today by shooting them a word of encouragement, a pep talk, a congratulations, an idea to help them improve or some other positive constructive message. Better still, do it publicly on your blog and tell the world about another blogger who you appreciate.

I was checking out a few of the posts, and noticed that a few people have taken this opportunity to thank some of the bloggers who have had a positive impact on them. I would like to do the same, as well!

In the past 8 months that I’ve been blogging, I’ve met some amazing people! A few in particular have done some amazing things for me, and I would love to thank them on Blogger Appreciation Day.

Shane of Shane and Peter Inc.

Shane is an amazing young entreperneur, offering his business insights on the Shane and Peter Inc. Blog. He’s accomplished so much and is only one year younger than I am (and goodness that sort of thing makes me feel old, lol). Shane has really helped bring out the entrepreneur in me!

I was simply amazed when he first found and commented on my original blog (little ole me?!?!?!) LOL. He offered some very kind comments and a huge boost of encouragement. I was honestly shocked that here’s this great business person (whose blog I had been following for some time) who somehow came across my blog - and thought it was good enough to leave a comment! This was back when the old blog was not even a month or two old.

Shane asked a few questions that really got my mind going - he has an certain way about communicating with other budding entrepreneurs… you get the sense that he honestly cares about find out your dreams and goals, and wants you to succeed!

Shane’s questions really gave me a big kick in the pants. I have him to thank for playing a large part in getting the ball rolling for me. So to kick off my version of Blogger Appreciation Day, Shane, I have to say Thank You!

Naomi of Itty Biz

This chick seriously rocks! Do you have a small business… a very, very small business, LOL? If so, you probably need marketing help, and Itty Biz is the place to go!

Naomi’s got a unique writing style - she tells it like it is, and isn’t afraid to use a few expletives in the process. I literally laugh out loud reading many of her posts - but they are not just funny, they are incredibly informative, as well.

I bought Naomi’s Itty Bitty package a few months ago, and all I can say is WOW! I can’t remember being as excited about my business as when I got off the phone with Naomi! I had some initial plans and ideas, but Naomi helped set me in a new direction - one I must say is working amazingly well so far!

I had a great phone consultation with Naomi, with follow-up emails throughout the re-design of my primary business site, and this blog. Heck, she had such great info, I came back for a second Itty Bitty package. Naomi, you’ve given me such amazing advice and direction, etc, that I have to say Thank You!

Wendy of eMoms at Home

Wendy offers great business advice for work at home mom’s and dad’s on the eMoms at Home blogging network. Well - I should re-phrase that… Wendy offers great business advice for small business owners and entrepreneurs period - regardless of their parenting status.

Wendy is in the process of re-branding her web site, as she’s realized that a large portion of her audience are not just parents. I don’t envy her on the re-branding - it’s certainly NOT an easy task… especially with a blogging network as large as eMoms at Home is!

Wendy is great about sharing the love with other small business owners. We’ve been following each other on Twitter for a while now… Shortly before the re-launch of my current web site, Wendy and I had a great little conversation… and by little, I mean 140 characters at a time or less, LOL.

I had been having questions and doubts about the direction this blog should take. I needed a bit of a nudge, and Wendy was there for me. She gave me the little pep talk that I needed to follow through on the same direction that Shane and Naomi had been nudging me towards as well. So to you, Wendy, I must say Thank You!

Jon of Freelance Folder

John is awesome! He’s the go-to social bookmarking guy, LOL. I had been reading Freelance Folder for a while, but first found a connection with Jon through StumbleUpon when I noticed that he bookmarked a post from my original blog. I thought that was pretty cool, since well, it was an itty bitty little blog (I swear I didn’t say that on purpose, Naomi, LOL).

Jon and I have since emailed and connected on Twitter, etc. - especially since the launch of this blog last month. This blog started out with a very small following - 20 people came over from the old blog (just about 50% of my original subscribers). It wasn’t long before I posted my article about the “6 Phases of the Web Design and Development Process.” I asked Jon if he wouldn’t mind submitting it to a couple of the social bookmarking sites (Digg or StumbleUpon - wherever!)

Little did I know, he submitted it to more than just a couple places, and it really caught on! 24 Diggs, 40 Likes on Stumble, 275 Saves on Del.icio.us… Wow! This one article has received well over 10,000 page views, and as a result I now have over 100 subscribers. Still a small number, but much larger than the original 20.

I’m still amazed by the number of comments, and trackbacks this article continues to receive. It even made the “Best of March…” lists on Smashing Magazine and Vandelay Web Design. I owe this 15 minutes of fame entirely to Jon. And for that, I must say Thank You!

Who Do You Want to Thank?

Who do you appreciate out there in the blogging world? Please spread the word about the (Unofficial for now…) Blogger Appreciation Day!

Please post a comment below, or on ProBlogger showing your appreciation for your favorite bloggers. Better yet - dedicate a post on your blog to the topic!

Save the Developers! Taking a Personal Stand!

Posted by Selene M. Bowlby on April 10th, 2008

Save the Developers! Taking a Personal Stand!

I wanted to follow up on my recent post highlighting the Save the Developers campaign, which is focusing it’s efforts on getting everyone to upgrade their outdated web browsers - specifically Internet Explorer 6.

Internet Explorer 6 Woes

I’ve been making several design updates to this blog, which is still in the Soft Launch phase while I tweak a few design elements, etc.

I have access to an older computer with IE6 for testing purposes - of course, even though this blog utilizes valid XHTML / CSS, it looks terrible on IE6!

On a personal note, this post marks the launch of version 1.2 of this WordPress theme. I’ve still got several tweaks in the works. Next stop? v 1.3 ;)

Finally - Transparent PNG’s!

As far as the IE6 issues with this blog… well, there are too many to count! But one major issue that has been holding me back is IE6’s inability to use transparent PNG’s without an IE6 hack, or creating two separate stylesheets (one for IE6 and one for everyone else).

So far I’ve just avoided the issue and not used transparent PNG’s, so as to not have to deal with the excess hassle in trying to make it work for IE6. I’ve been using GIF’s if I need a transparent image, or done work-arounds with JPG’s instead.

Business…

Of course, I want my main business web site to be as accessible as possible, regardless of the end user’s web browser. So that site has been setup to accommodate IE6 users with fully validated code.

All sites that I create for my own clients are fully accessible with the latest browser versions and IE6.

There’s no way around that! Business is business, and it’s important to get your message across to as wide an audience as possible.

… vs. Pleasure

But, with this being my personal blog, I have made the decision to send a different message to my audience, by taking the stand for web standards!

I will be fully promoting the Save the Developers cause by NOT worrying myself over compatibility and display issues with IE6.

I have installed the script provided by savethedevelopers.org. IE6 users will see a little graphic at the top of their screen, urging them to upgrade. Hopefully at least one or two people do take the opportunity to upgrade their browser!

This will save hours, if not days in trying to make a fix for an out-dated browser that does not comply to the current web standards. Not to mention, I can finally fully utilize the transparent PNG’s that I’ve been wanting to use for the longest time now.

Together we can make a difference!

If you are a web designer, I hope you’ll join me in promoting this cause!

Please feel free to post a comment below with your web site or blog link if you are promoting the Save the Developers campaign by urging all IE6 users to upgrade their browser and installing the Save the Developers script on your web site or blog.

Maybe this time next year, we can get that number of 30% IE6 users down to 10% or less!
